Historic talks between U.S. and IranThe first high-profile meeting between the U.S. and Iran in almost 30 years took place on Monday, and both sides later described the talks as positive. However, the meeting’s agenda steered clear of Iran’s nuclear program, which has boosted tensions between the two nations in recent months.The four-hour meeting was between U.S. ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker, and his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Kazemi-Qomi. The meeting indicated a shift in the U.S. policy of shunning almost all contact with Iranian officials since severing formal ties with the country in 1980, 14 month’s after Iran’s Islamic Revolution.
